Herr Mike’s Top 10 Beers of 2017

By Herr Mike

Here are some of the top beers I have had the pleasure of drinking during 2017.

Some of these brews just came out this year and some have been around for a while, but this is my first crack at drinking them. If you read any of my previous “Best Of” articles in the past you know the drill.

The beers are not listed in any special order and the link to the full review and ratings of each beer can be found by clicking in the beer’s name.

If you have any beers that you thought were outstanding for 2017 please leave it in the comments below.

Let’s hope 2018 brings us more tasty brews! PROST!

  Victory Mighty Things

I love DirtWolf but I think I have a new favorite DIPA from Victory. Tropical fruits with a dank chewy body make this a must try.

                                    Westbrook Key Lime Pie Gose

Westbrook delivers a perfect slice of liquid key lime pie. Tart with a crusty backbone like a pie crust.

Ommegang Game of Thrones Winter Is Here

Winter is here and it’s very tasty. Lots of fruitiness and just enough spice to make this a pretty perfect witbier.

Dogfish Head Oak-Aged Vanilla World Wide Stout

Another impressive offering from Dogfish Head. A very decadent high ABV sipper that can make one forget about everything that’s wrong with the world

                                      Schlafly Coconut Crème Ale

I love coconut so this was a must try for me and it was worth the quaff. The coconut doesn’t overpower the beer but it’s presence lingers until the final sip.

Flying Fish Exit 3 Blueberry Braggot

A pretty tasty brew and the high ABV is well hidden. The blueberry lingers in the background and the honey isn’t cloying. This is one of the oldest styles of fermented beverages and is a must try if you like Braggots and Meads.

                                       Lord Hobo Consolation Prize

My second beer from Lord Hobo and it’s awesome! Juicy fruits with some chewiness made this a pleasure to drink. I may have lost the lottery but I love my Consolation Prize!

                                      Firestone Walker Bravo 2017

Another barrel aged masterpiece from Firestone Walker. A plethora of flavors make this my ultimate brown ale.

                                    Sierra Nevada Ovila White Ale

I love the Oliva series and it’s nice to see it sold as sixers. Super tasty with all the characteristics of the style.

                                        Evil Twin Even More Jesus

I’ve had some great Stouts over the years and this ranks with the best of them. Everything you’re looking for in an Imperial Stout is here and at under $2.50 for a pounder you can’t go wrong.
