Thanksgiving is upon us once more and the question I always ask myself is “What beers should I drink with my turkey dinner?”
Over the years I have found some great American brewed beers that pair nicely with Thanksgiving foods and I would like to share them with you.
Some of the beers on the list will have mass distribution so they should be available in your area but some may not. There will be a link with each beer to my full review which will give you the style plus tasting notes so you can always substitute a beer you can find at your local liquor store.
The list is in no particular order so have fun paring your food and beer and be thankful that we have such a great selection of craft beer in this country.
Have a happy and tasty Thanksgiving! PROST!
Stone Saison du BUFF
I love Saisons because they pair nicely with many different foods and the ABV isn’t that high so they won’t bog your taste buds down. This beer is from Stone Brewing but it was also brewed by Victory Brewing and Dogfish Head. Read the review
Tröegs Mad Elf
I you love cherries this beer is for you. This beer is Troegs Christmas offering but being Thanksgiving is the start of the holiday season it is perfect at Thanksgiving. This beer weighs in at 11% ABV so can drink it with dinner or dessert. Read the review
Cape May Mop Water
This is a spiced ale from my home state of New Jersey. It’s a big and bold brew so it is good with dinner or dessert. I can’t wait to tell people “I drank Mop Water with my Thanksgiving dinner!” and watch their reaction! LOL! Read the review
Dogfish Head Midas Touch
This is the perfect beer if you like to drink wine with dinner. This ancient ale from Dogfish Head drinks like a mead or white wine so it’s great with poultry dishes. Just remember it’s 9% ABV. Read the review
Old Dominion Candi
Tripels are another great beer style that pair good with food. This beer from Old Dominion Brewing clocks in at 10% ABV. Who says you can’t have a little Candi with dinner. Read the review
Left Hand White Russian Nitro
I’ve had a few nitro beers and white stouts and this is one of the best. If you want to be like “The Dude” this Thankgsiving, crack this silky smooth dessert beer and you won’t be disappointed! Read the review
Flying Dog Family Drama
A don’t drink many Pilsners but I do like Imperial Pilsners and this one delivers. The ABV is well hidden too. Everyone needs a little Familay Drama at Thanksgiving! Read the review
Avery The Kaiser
Marzens pair great with poultry so it’s a great beer to have with your turkey dinner. This is hefty at 8% but still has great balance. Now you can tell everyone you had Thanksgiving dinner with “The Kaiser”! Read the review
Southern Tier Pumking Nitro
I like Pumpking but it always tasted over spiced to me. The nitro version mellows out the spice and made the beer more balanced. I also love the creamy mouthfeel. Read the review
Founders Curmudgeon Old Ale
When all the food is consumed and you want that finally beer to cap off the holiday nothing beats this old ale from Founders Brewing. So complex yet so delicious you want to drink it by itself and reflect back on everything you are thankful for. Read the review
